Aphrodisiac

Honey and ginger were both considered by the ancients to be aphrodisiac. Onions were also considered to have aphrodisiac qualities, and one custom involved the giving of onion soup to couples on their wedding night.

Celery, dill, fennel, hawthorn, nettle, valerian and watercress were also once considered to have aphrodisiac qualities. Nowadays, some people considered oysters to be aphrodisiac.
